The following is a review of our 2004 debut album 'Mivvi vs the Machine', reproduced by kind permission of it's author.

Reincarnated a couple of years ago in trio format with drummer Big Rich joining founder members Nicky and Dicky, the Birmingham boys consolidate their resurrection with the release of a self-help debut album primarily packed with driving chiming guitar rock melodies, chugging rhythms and frequently tumbling choruses that sneak inside the head and refuse to be dislodged.

If you need to pin them next to comparisons, I guess you could fillet out touches of The Wonder Stuff (Nick's vocals not dissimilar to Miles Hunt), Ash, the Jam, Supergrass and Dodgy among the influences as well as some older psychedelic 60s guitar flavours on You, Me and Him.

If I didn't think they'd take it the wrong way I'd suggest there's tracks, band anthem Dayaway, Beautie Crew, Always At Zero -  that sound like a grown up Busted, so - without any direct comparison - maybe the power pop punk of Blink 182 might be a better choice.

Whatever, you'd be hard put not to want to hurl yourself into the throng when Clownfoot or the glam goes psychobilly Day In The City crank up.  They take breathers too, HooDoo Celebrity a gently jangling poisoned chalice while the closing bile laced swayer Take A Look catches Nicky's vocals in an emotional bruise, but it's the rush that hits you hardest and makes you wonder why no record label had sufficient suss to sign them.  There'll be bidding wars before bedtime, mark my words. ****

This is the Original Biography from the first mivvi website, as written by A. Perry

It happened in the autumn of 2002. From the ashes of one of Birmingham's most popular unsigned bands sprung a new monster with a familiar name - Mivvi were back. Now a three-piece rather than the original four man band of the late nineties. Lead vocalist/guitarist Nicky P and Bassist Tricky Dicky - half the original line-up were joined by new drummer Big Rich. A raw sound and a new-found creativity fuelled a fresh track-listing, joined by a few old favourites (such as Mivvi's old signature tune 'Dayaway') albeit with a harder edge. Then came the summer, and a couple of support gigs were all they needed to prove their worth - soon enough they were headling once again.

The past year has had many highlights - including playing Chamberlain Square for Birmingham's Art's Fest, featuring on Robanna's B-Scene compilation CD, gigs around the country in locations such as Nottingham, a successfully executed website, and developing a keen group of devoted fans (including the ladies of 'The Beauty Crew' - named after one of the most popular of Mivvi's new songs).

And now the conquest continues as Mivvi play the opening of regular music at Broad Street's Waxy O'Connors. Their new three-track freebie 'Three of Twelve' is being snatched up like hot-cakes, and their first self-published album is on the horizon. The New songs are rich-sounding with some goose-pimple moments squeezing into the repertoire. Things are good in Mivvi-land. Seek them out; you could do a lot worse than spend an evening in a bar with a band who like to rock - for the pure love of music. If you're still not convinced, or want to know more you can visit their website at www.mivvi.co.uk
